“The myth surrounding the birth of the Greek goddess Athena, was explained with the construction of a heptagon. She was not born in the ordinary way through a womb. When Zeus was told that one of his children would overthrow him, he swallowed his pregnant wife, Metis, whole. He soon developed a fierce headache. When the blacksmith deity Hephaestis split his crown with an ax, Athena sprang forth from his head. She remained Virgin through life and, of course, bore no children.
Like Athene an exact heptagon is not and cannot be constructed, be „born“ like the other shapes through the „whomb“ of the vesica piscis. It pops out from the top of the small circle beyond it, from the crown of the circle, from the head of Zeus, her „father“. This explains why the virgin seven cannot be entered, cannot produce numbers within the Dekad, and cannot be captured: simply because it is not born.“

Sacred Geometry may be understood as a worldview of pattern recognition, a complex system of religious symbols and structures involving space, time and form. According to this view the basic patterns of existence are perceived as sacred. By studying the nature of these patterns, forms and relationships and their connections, insight may be gained into the mysteries – the laws and lore of the Universe.

The methodology of sacred geometry is here projected on the process of designing. Strict rules of mathematics and geometry were followed in the setup. Nevertheless the objects receive a deeper importance after being staged and put into context.

The collection ATHANA SS18 is a series of 7 transformable unisex backpack/bags. Each backpack-bag it constructed under different geometrical principles.

The product’s setup is reflected, deconstructed and put together in a new way. In this process, the accessories often merge into hybrids, raising the wearing comfort and thus upgrading the body. Underneath the minimalistic & geometrical design there is always a playful usability to be found.
